Indigenous Engagement

Respect guides how Kubay operates, makes decisions, and builds relationships. It shapes the way we engage with Indigenous people, communities, tribal councils, organizations, and local businesses, ensuring our work is grounded in partnership, accountability, and mutual understanding.

Integrating Indigenous knowledge and cultural values into the planning and design of infrastructure and built environment projects strengthens relationships with Indigenous communities. This approach fosters trust, long-term collaboration, and meaningful economic participation for Indigenous Peoples, communities, and businesses throughout every stage of a project’s lifecycle.

Building on a foundation of meaningful consultation and engagement

Our commitment to reconciliation includes strengthening our services to better support Indigenous communities, groups, and businesses, while also guiding clients who seek to build respectful and productive partnerships with them.

When projects take place on or near Indigenous traditional territories, clients rely on us to provide practical guidance on cultural awareness, regulatory compliance, and adherence to applicable legislation and policies, ensuring work proceeds responsibly and collaboratively.

Indigenous Knowledge (IK) and Indigenous land and resource use studies

We provide support for community-led Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous Land and Resource Use initiatives. Our work begins with early scoping alongside Indigenous groups, aligned with regulatory requirements and guided by community priorities. We assist in establishing Knowledge Sharing Agreements and in integrating Indigenous Knowledge into environmental, social impact, and baseline studies.

Throughout the process, we work directly with knowledge holders to confirm that Indigenous Knowledge is accurately represented and respectfully incorporated.

Social impact assessment and management planning

We deliver social impact assessment and social management planning services as part of regulatory processes across Canada. Where development activities may affect Indigenous Peoples, Kubay approaches the work in a collaborative and inclusive manner.

Our assessment and planning methods are designed to reflect the concerns, priorities, and long-term aspirations of Indigenous communities and groups, ensuring projects move forward with transparency, respect, and shared understanding.

Indigenous employment and training program development

We consider project-specific workforce planning throughout every stage of the project lifecycle and support the development of Indigenous employment and training programs. Our goal is to help projects create meaningful, lasting benefits for local Indigenous communities.

Working closely with clients, local employment and training organizations, and community leaders, we help design programs that build skills, strengthen local capacity, and generate long-term employment opportunities for Indigenous people and regional businesses.

Indigenous community planning

We partner with Indigenous communities to help advance their community development goals, supporting infrastructure planning, land use initiatives, and long-term growth strategies.

Our team also provides engineering design and build services for community infrastructure projects, often incorporating socio-economic assessments to ensure development aligns with community priorities and delivers sustainable benefits.
